The recently launched Elle Decor LookBook App has design enthusiasts buzzing. See what this new app is and why you’ll be downloading it soon.
The popular Elle Decor LookBook is a fantastic online resource not just for gathering inspiration and decorating ideas, but as a way of actually finding specific products for recreating that look at home. Luckily, there’s now a mobile version available as an iPad app. If you’re addicted to decorating inspiration boards on Pinterest, you’ll definitely want to check this out.
When I first heard about the Elle Decor LookBook App, I of course ran to download it to my iPad for a test-drive and was immediately impressed. You can search by rooms and pull up photos for an up-close look. Small details of the room along with information like the designer and photographer are easily available. The app can even pull up the original Elle Decor article where the photo was featured. Too cool!
The app also has social integration that allows you to post the picture to Facebook, Twitter, or send the link via email. When tweeting a photo from the app however, I did notice that it simply sent the photo link along with a generic message rather than letting me add my own comments (see my tweet here). A “pin it” button is notably missing in the social sharing functions.
You can save an image to your Design File and make a note about the photo, which totally helps if you’re making a note about one specific design aspect in the room that you want to pull up later.
The app allows you to search a photo database to pull up images which works great when searching by room (bedroom, bathroom, etc.) or styles (modern, traditional, beach). It struggled to pull up a lot of images when I tested specific search terms and colors like red, stripes, chevron, and fireplace, but this will likely improve as the app gets more established.
You can also browse featured lookbooks and articles for inspiration.
Overall, the Elle Decor LookBook app is perfect for fellow design junkies who love browsing beautiful spaces and crave an easy way to find more information about the photos than simply the “Love this room” type of comments found on Pinterest.
