Adding some pizzaz to a forgotten family photo is a perfect low-cost way to show mom you care this Mother’s Day. Black-and-white photos have a subtle elegance that can become an eye-catching heirloom with just a little bit of craftiness.
The crafters at DIY Life shared a simple, yet striking, way to frame a black-and-white photo of mom in a way that gives it more style than a plain old white matte frame.
The simple project uses two wallpaper patterns in complementary colors. Just find (or make) a matted frame and adhere the paper to the matte to create a patterned matte. Then just find an old photo of mom—one she hasn’t seen in a while will be an especially surprising gift!
This Mother’s Day craft idea works best with black-and-white photos purely because of the contrast between the lack of color in the photo and the color in the matte. You could probably achieve a similar effect using a monochrome pattern for the matte with a color photo, but the black-and-white seems to have more charm to it, in my opinion.
